Abstract: Human action has changed the global climate. Of this there is no question. What is uncertain is whether we are past the tipping point of global climate stability—whether we have pushed the earth out of the temperature norms that have characterised the last 10,000 years of human flourishing. This paper asks what the theological implications are if we are indeed faced with a brave new climate: what does it mean theologically if we are going to be faced with dramatic change that will bring untold amounts of suffering for humans and other creatures and for Christian theology’s persistent anthropocentrism.
