April 2021 – Summer 2022
In a recent survey, 30% of non-Christians and 10% of Christians in the UK thought the church was ‘not compatible with science’ (World Vision/Barna, 2018). One of the reasons that The Faraday Institute exists is to help the church change this perception by engaging with mainstream science, addressing subjects that are relevant to society today, and creating opportunities for conversations with both scientists and the general public. We want to give everyone the opportunity to think about how science relates to Christian faith, helping you to integrate some engagement with science into your existing activities.
We are now offering bursaries for staff or representatives of denominations, or equivalent networks of churches, to cover some of the costs of coming on one of our short (1-6 day) courses. The aim is to help you grow in your knowledge of how science can complement faith, explore the hot topics, get to know us and find out how we can resource you and your network in your ministry.
Please take some time to think about who might benefit from this input and be able to put some of it into action in your denomination. To apply, simply contact our Church Engagement Director Ruth Bancewicz at email@example.com saying who you are, why you would like to receive a bursary, and which of our upcoming courses you would like to attend. The size of the bursary will depend on the course, but we will usually reduce the cost of attendance to the ministerial trainee or student rates, which are substantially subsidised.
When you attend the course, whether in person or online, you will have the opportunity for a one-to-one chat with Ruth, as well as interactions with other members of the Faraday staff. She will also be in touch 3-6 months after the course to find out how you’re getting on, and whether you need any extra support.
In addition to this bursary scheme, we are of course happy to hear from denominational or network staff at any time. For example, we can advise on particular topics, recommend resources or speakers, or organise an in-house training session.
